BARNWELL - Berlinda Payne Odom was born on Friday, February 11, 1949, in Alton, Alabama. She was the beloved daughter of the late Reverend Sam and Mary Payne.

During the hours of Thursday, September 26, 2024, the gates of Heaven opened and welcomed Berlinda home. God touched her heart and whispered, “Come to me, for you have fought a good fight and labored enough”. She made her permanent change of address from Earth to Heaven in the serenity of her home in Barnwell, South Carolina, at the age of 75.

Seeking God’s direction and guidance, she joined and became a baptized member of Allen Street Church of God in Barnwell, S.C. She received her education from teachers and mentors in the Alabama school system and graduated from Robert Russell Moulton High School. She worked as a chef at a nursing facility.

Berlinda was united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life and lifetime companion, Olin Odom. The couple remained together until the Lord called her home.

Although Berlinda’s presence will be no more, she leaves loving memories that will remain embedded in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her grandparents, she was preceded in death and is now resting with her beloved parents, Sam Payne and Mary Givens, as well as two sisters, Rosetta Payne and Ruth Johnson.

Those remaining to cherish fond memories are her loving and devoted husband of 56 years, Olin Odom; one daughter, Kay Hallingquest (Tracy) of Trussville, AL; three sons, Arlin Odom (Gwendolyn) of Margaret, AL, and Kenneth Odom and Marcus Odom (Nahkia), both of Barnwell, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam Payne (Patricia) of Leeds, AL and Theodore Payne (Patricia) of Holly, MI; four sisters, Barbara Jean Morgan and Faye Goudy (Frank), both of Birmingham, AL, Diana Robinson (Ronnie) of Detroit, MI and Phyllis Peterson (Walter) of Vincent, AL; one aunt, Lucy Givens; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.

Services were held Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Ned Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Barnwell with Pastor Trevor Cropp presiding and Reverend Darlene Thomas serving as eulogist.

B.F. Cave Funeral Home of Allendale was in charge of arrangements.
