The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) opened in Barnwell County served over 100 individuals in the three days it was open.

The center was located at the Barnwell Regional Airport from Sunday, October 13 to Tuesday, October 15 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to assist those impacted by Hurricane Helene. In the first two days, 116 individuals utilized the DRC.

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center will remain open one more day. On Wednesday, October 16, the center will open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Barnwell County Airport, said Barnwell County Emergency Management Director Roger Riley.

DRC’s serve as a one-stop shop for all disaster relief related questions and to register for assistance. Individuals can also meet with FEMA representatives and check the status of their application.

Also at this location were representatives from the Small Business Administration (SBA), who offer disaster assistance for homeowners, renters, nonprofits, and businesses affected by the hurricane.

Additional DRCs will open soon across the state and in other affected areas. Those in need can visit any open center to meet with representatives of FEMA and the SBA. No appointment is needed.

FEMA’s Disaster Information Helpline is 1-800-621-3362 and online services are available via https://www.disasterassistance.gov/.

Helpline call volume is currently high due to a wide number of disaster survivors across the southeast from both Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton.
