Blackville artist wins award at S.C. State Fair

Blackville native Terrance Washington has won the Best of Division in the Amateur category of the fine arts competition at the S.C. State Fair for his work, "Country Girl."

The piece is a Digital Art work that won in the Spirit of Carolina's 2-D Division of the State Fair Awards. 

Washington also is showcasing several works as a member of the Creative Connector exhibitors. Washington, Ian Dillinger, Robert Matheson, and James Wilson, all formerly named Creative Connectors by the SC Arts Commission are joined by Ernest Lee, Rajasekhar Yrrangutla, Jasmine Crawford and Xavier Harris to display works as a group at the 2024 exhibit. They have exhibited in Aiken, Orangeburg, Bluffton, SC and now the S.C. State Fair.

Washington also took part in another competition Winston-Salem, North Carolina this summer at the artist thrive summit. The summit brought together artist all over the United States who are looking to push themselves their work and the work that they do and take community to better themselves as well as their community though the arts. School at Artists Thr!ve 2024 Competition.

There were a set of guidelines each person head to complete, script liner story-boarding, shot list, filming to editing, all under a minute. Washington won Best Storyboard, Best Shot List and Best use of the Artist Thrive Tool.

Washington, a former elementary school art educator, now curator, is the founder/president of the Blackville Music & Arts Festival. He is a graduate of Blackville-Hilda High School, Denmark Technical College, The Art Institute of Charlotte and South Carolina State University at which he majored in Digital Media. He works as an artist in the Fine Arts genres of Curator, Digi- tal Media, Photography, Graphics, and Printmaking.

The Creative Connector exhibition works may be seen in Columbia at the State Fair Fine Arts Exhibition Hall in the Cantey Building on the balcony through October 20, 2024. These and other works may be viewed at all Creative Connectors’ respective websites. You can meet all the artists from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Satur- day, October 19, 2024.
