In honor of their mother’s 100th birthday observance, the children of Lily Bell Daniels Seabrooks are asking 100 of her closest friends to donate $100 in support of the Lily Bell Daniels Seabrooks Nursing Scholarship Fund.
The funds will be used as tuition assistance for a local Allendale resident who has been accepted into the USC Salkehatchie nursing program.
“Our mother would have made an excellent nurse – she was smart, kind, empathetic, compassionate, and had a heart for healing,” as reminisced by the eldest daughter, Ivory Whitaker.
This fund aims to increase rural student involvement with hopes of eliminating financial burdens while providing academic opportunities.
"As a child, we remember her sharing stories of how “Big Ma” would show her how to find herbs and other medicinal vegetation in the woods to tend various ailments. Although, her formal education stopped at the 8th grade, we all believed that had she been exposed to a different place and time, and would have pursued a degree in nursing," states her family.
Therefore, to honor her model efforts to human life, her family would like to pay it forward and bless a future nursing student and support that individual’s pursuit of the profession.
"Can we count on you to be one of the 100 individuals who accepts this invitation by responding yes to pledge your commitment? My siblings and I will match dollar-for-dollar up to the 100-person commitment received. Your pledge is important to meeting this goal," states the family.
