ALLENDALE - Loving husband, adoring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, avid golfer and Clemson College graduate of 1963, Johnny Lee Brewer of Allendale, South Carolina passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024, at the age of 83.

He was born to Jewel and Amos Brewer on January 8, 1941, and reared in Lake View, S.C. along with his siblings Linda (Billy) Canada, Dianne (Jimmy Ingram) Brewer, and the late Jerry (Adah) Brewer.

During his time at Clemson, he married the love of his life, Joan Cecile Page. They were blessed with a joyful 62 years together. They reared two children, Guy (Sandra) Alan Brewer and Gina (Joseph III) Dee Brewer Oswald. He was the very proud grandfather, affectionally called Gran, to four grandchildren: Joseph (Rachel) Caulder Oswald IV, Jacob (Samantha) Brewer Oswald, Janie (Pierson) Cecile Oswald Birt, and Attis Jackson Brewer. He adored his great-granddaughter, Magnolia Jane Birt, and was eager to meet Rosemary Page Birt, born just four days after his death. He was excitedly anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild due in October.

After graduating, he and Joan moved back to Lake View where he farmed with his father for a time. They then moved to Chesterfield, S.C. where he taught agricultural education at the high school. They moved to Conway next where he became an assistant county agent for the Clemson Extension Service. The family moved to Allendale, S.C. in 1970 where he was promoted to county agent, a title he retained for 23 years. In 1981 he received the Distinguished Service Award. After retiring Johnny spent many of his days shrimping and fishing at Lands End on St. Helena Island, S.C. He enjoyed playing golf with his golfing buddies, bicycling across town, avidly completing crossword puzzles, reading novels, and watching westerns and golf on TV, but mostly he enjoyed time with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Allendale where he served as a deacon. He will be always loved and cherished and greatly missed.

Please join us for a celebration of life which will be held at the Lands End Community Church at 63 Bay Point Road on St. Helena Island on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11 a.m. Visitation will follow the service. We encourage you to wear golf and/or snappy, casual attire. Johnny had a knack for his quick wit and his ability to elicit a smile or laughter from others. We would love for you to share your fond memories and anecdotes with the family. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Allendale or the Lands End Community Church.
