BLACKVILLE - Thomas Patric Long, 74, of Blackville, passed away on February 26th, 2023, at Lexington Hospice House after a battle with cancer. He was born in Sylva, North Carolina on July 31st, 1948 to the late Fred Patric Long and Avis Monteith Long.

The Long family has lived in Barnwell County since the 1700’s. Pat grew up in Barnwell, South Carolina and went to Barnwell High School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and loved serving his country. After the Navy, he came back to Barnwell and attended college at USC. Afterwards he owned Cleve’s Auto Parts store in Barnwell. Pat worked at Sara Lee, also in Barnwell, and with Wise Trucking in Blackville.

Pat was a member of the Blackville First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, and he also attended the Catholic Church in Springfield with his wife. He was a Barnwell County Lion’s Club member, and a volunteer with the Barnwell County Helpline and the Axis I Center. He was a big kind gentle man with a big soul. He loved God, his country, his wife, his stepchildren, his dogs, and all the people he encountered in life. He loved people and nature as he captured them in his photography.

Pat is survived by his wife, Cheryl Azouri Long, and three stepchildren: Arthur Edwin Perry II, (spouse Kathleen McCormack Perry) of Isle of Palms, S.C., Phyllis Perry King (spouse Mark Alexander King Jr.) of Belton, S.C., and Anthony Scott Perry (spouse Shirley Kaney Perry of Blackville, S.C.); six grandchildren: Dianne Elizabeth King of Belton, S.C., Amanda King Love (spouse Chad Love) of Williston, S.C., Arthur Edwin Perry III of Baton Rouge, LA, Andrew McArthur Perry of Columbia, S.C., Chloe McCormack Rogers of Fairfield, CT, and Olivia Joye Kaney of Blackville, S.C.; one great-grandchild, Lilly Alice Love of Williston, S.C. In addition, he’s survived by two brothers and two sisters: Ann Long Lee (spouse Wilt Lee of Greer, S.C.), Jeanne Long Wedincamp (spouse Larry Wedincamp) of Baxley, Ga., Charles Sidney Long (spouse Tina Long) of North Augusta, S.C., and Joseph C. Long of Hilda, S.C.

The family would like to thank all of those at Lexington Medical Center, Pruitt Health in Barnwell, and Lexington Hospice House who helped to take care of Patric in his last few weeks.

Visitation will be at Mole Funeral Home in Barnwell on March 9th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Life service at Barnwell County Memory Gardens Cemetery will be held March 10th at 11 a.m.
