Aaliyah Staley, a 10th grade student, is the winner of Barnwell High School’s Black History Month Art Contest.
Students were tasked with describing an African-American in their life, community, or throughout history who made a positive impact. They also had to describe how that person inspired them personally.
“I wanted to celebrate black femininity. I was inspired by Beyonce and her message of female empowerment,” said Staley.
She used Sharpie along with lead and colored pencils to create her masterpiece that is titled “Silhouette of a Black Beauty”.
