A team of Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) employees recently volunteered for the United Way of Allendale, Barnwell, and Bamberg counties’ Project CARE to build an accessibility ramp for a local resident.

Project CARE is an annual event that is held for United Way agencies and residents who often depend on volunteers such as SRMC employees for various projects.

The SRMC employees teamed up with the Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association Men’s Ministry Program to identify a Barnwell County resident needing their help.

SRMC Senior Operations/Technical Training Specialist Denise Long led the SRMC volunteer group because she loves giving back to the community in which she lives.

“It was an honor and a privilege to serve alongside my co-workers to provide safe, reliable access to a resident’s home, which is something many of us take for granted every day,” Long said. “We enjoy serving where needed to improve the lives of those around us.”

SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson said he is pleased to see employees volunteering in the community to provide services to families that otherwise could not afford or be able to perform themselves.

“Whenever there is a call for help, SRMC employees do not hesitate to answer,” Olson said. “Our workforce stands ready to assist those who are less fortunate, and I am grateful to have people who are eager to lend a hand to those in need.”

SRMC is the liquid waste contractor at SRS and comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
