Raiders ground Eagles 66-0

Posted

The Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders loaded up the bus and hit the road to Conway last Friday, September 6, as they visited the Conway Christian Eagles. The Raiders were a heavy favorite going into this game, but no one expected the 66-0 beat down that was put on the Eagles by the Raiders.

You might think with such a lopsided score that JDA let their starters pad their stats and play way longer than they should. This was not the case. Jefferson Davis only completed one pass then ran the ball 47 times. Thirteen different Raiders carried the ball. Nasir Void led the rushing attack carrying the ball eight times for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Colson Loadholt only had four carries, but ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Loadholt averaged 22.3 yards per carry.  The rest of the team did the rest. When all was said and done JDA had 400 yards rushing on 47 attempts. Six different Raiders ran for touchdowns.

Defensively, Payton Payne led the way with 10 tackles. Ten different Raiders collected tackles on the night. It was a real team effort on both sides of the ball. Lots of players got the opportunity to play and several played positions they don’t normally play. This is good for future games when unexpected changes are needed.

Raiders head coach Anthony Reitenour was asked about his team’s giant win and replied, “The team rose to the challenge of coming out strong with high energy Friday night. In really wet conditions, the offense fumbled on the first drive turning the ball over but after that the guys executed flawlessly. Payton Payne returned from injury for the first time in the regular season and made an immediate impact on defense totaling ten tackles on the night and disrupting Conway's offense every snap. Nolan Craig also was big on defense with seven tackles.”

Offensively, the Raiders had six different players hit the end zone with rushing touchdowns while nine different guys hit double-digit rushing yards on the night. “Nas Void led the way with eight carries for 102 yards and scored two touchdowns. Colson Loadholt had four carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns. James Grubbs had nine carries for 70 yards and scored a touchdown. The guys are trending in the right direction for the season but there is still a lot of work to be done. We will get back to work tomorrow to get ready for another road contest at the Kings Academy,” said Coach Reitenour.

The Raiders will travel to Florence to face The King’s Academy Lions this Friday night, Sept. 13. The Lions will not be a pushover. Sitting at 2-1 on the season, these Lions can roar. Their only loss is to the undefeated Holly Hill Academy. JDA will need a good game and lots of support. Pack up those cars. Bring a friend and you can even make a stop at Buc-ee’s after the Raiders victory! Come support your Raiders as they look to go 4-1 on the season.
