The Barnwell Warhorse volleyball team won back-to-back matches against Lake Marion on Tuesday, September 10 and the next night, Wednesday, September 11, against Blackville-Hilda. With the pair of victories, the Warhorses raised their record to 4-2.

In the Tuesday match, Barnwell traveled to Santee, South Carolina to face the Lake Marion Gators. Barnwell came away with a 3-0 victory over the Gators. Barnwell took the first set 25-23, in what turned out to be the only close set of the match. The Horses won the second set 25-18 and cruised to a 25-16 third set to gain the 3-0 win.

Barnwell head coach Kames Furtick was asked about her team’s win over Lake Marion and said, “Our girls pulled off an impressive win in their first region game against Lake Marion. The girls played together as one and really showcased what we have been working on in practice.”

The following night, the Horses had a much shorter road trip as they visited their in-county rivals, the Blackville-Hilda Hawks. The back-to-back road games did not seem to have a negative effect on the Horses as they earned their second straight 3-0 victory. The first set went to Barnwell 25-19. The second set was all Barnwell, with the Horses coming away with a 25-9 win. The third set was much closer, but Barnwell was able to close out the match with a 25-19 win to give the Horses a 3-0 victory.

Coach Furtick was asked about her team’s win over the Hawks and said, “We always have a good time when we travel to Blackville. You can't control the atmosphere when you're on the road, but Blackville's gym is always incredibly positive and energizing. I can't say enough about their fans and supporters. They are truly a class act and make us feel welcomed every year. It is always a little more interesting because some of our girls are related to some of Blackville's girls.”

Coach Furtick and the Warhorse volleyball team invite everyone to come out this Wednesday, September 18 as Barnwell hosts the Blackville-Hilda Hawks for Senior Night. The following night, Thursday, September 19, Barnwell will host the Edisto Cougars in a region match that could have playoff implications.

Come out and support the Horses for Senior Night and for their region clash with Edisto. Go Horses!
