Katha Williams of Barnwell delivered her last piece of mail on Dec. 22, 2023, officially retiring after 30 years with the U.S. Postal Service.
She began working with the USPS in October 1993. She has been assigned to all three Barnwell city routes during her career, meaning she delivered mail to every residence in the City of Barnwell that receives mail from the USPS.
Due to a shortage of employees, Williams spent the last seven years splitting her time between supervising and carrier duties.
“I thank all the citizens of Barnwell for making the job easy for this mail lady,” said Williams.
She said she enjoyed her career and only had one very bad day, which is when she was attached by a dog.
She officially retired on December 29, 2023, after 30 years, 2 months, and 14 days of service.
