BHS JROTC Warhorse Battalion cadets awarded

Cadets in the JROTC Warhorse Battalion at Barn­well High School (BHS) were recognized for their dedication, improvement, and performance in the program at the annual awards ceremony.

A total of 26 awards were given out to cadets:

Battalion Commander c/LTC Tameriah Hutto was awarded the Senior Army Instructor Leadership Award, a $500 check from the Barnwell County Leathernecks #1227, the ­local Marine Corps. League for her dedication, academic excellence, and display of Americanism, and won an essay contest held earlier in the year. Hutto, a senior at BHS, was described as dedicated to leading the Warhorse Battalion and always willing to lend a hand when needed. JROTC Instructor LTC(R) Marvin Brown wished her well as she continues a military career he knows she will be successful in.

Cadet Alayna ­Mitchell was awarded the Assistant Army Instructor Leadership Award and the Daughters of the American Revolution Award for the Most Dependable ­Female Cadet.

Cadet Jacob Hess was awarded the Military Officers Association of America Award for Potential for Military Leadership and awarded for having the highest score on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery ­(ASVAB) for Barnwell High School.

Cadet Timoni Howell and Cadet Macey ­Kennedy were both awarded the Association of the United States Army JROTC Medal for Leadership and Academic Achievement.

Cadet Haley Padgett was awarded the Warhorse Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for exemplary performance as an Army JROTC cadet.

Cadet LaMarcus Gill was awarded the Warhorse Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for exemplary performance as an Army JROTC cadet.

Cadet Nevaeh Nickens was awarded the Warhorse Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for exemplary performance as an Army JROTC cadet and the Grand Lodge JROTC Award for Service Learning.

Cadet LaKayla Glover was awarded the Warhorse Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) for exemplary performance as an Army JROTC cadet and the Marine Corps Leadership Award.

Cadet Zane Campbell was awarded the Marine Corps Leadership Award.

Cadet Daniel Sanders was awarded the American Legion JROTC Award for Adherence to Military Values and The Grand Lodge JROTC Award for Service Learning.

Cadet Kazor Morgan was awarded the Retired Officer Association Award and for being on the winning orienteering team at a recent competition.

Cadet Edward ­Melendez was awarded the Reserve Officers Association Award.

Cadet Valerie Johnson was awarded the American Veterans Award.

Cadet Adam Chavis was awarded the Sons of the American Revolution Award for the Most Dependable Male Cadet.

Cadet Samariona Mayes was awarded the Tuskegee Airman Award for academic excellence. This award is given with a stripe, which is worn in remembrance and honor of its namesake.

Cadet Madelaine Brown was awarded for achieving the highest Cadet Challenge score for the school year and displaying the highest level of physical fitness.

Cadet JaMarcus Coleman was awarded for achieving the highest Cadet Challenge score for the school year and displaying the highest level of physical fitness.

Cadet Zane Campbell was awarded for being on the winning orienteering team at a recent competition.

Cadet Morgan Mixon and Cadet Kelandra McCreary were awarded the National Sojourners award for their patriotism in the JROTC program.

Cadet Nakia Sutton, Cadet Isabelle Ayers, and Cadet Sayana Singely were awarded Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry for scholastic excellence and demonstration of American patriotism.

Cadet MaKayla ­Workman, Cadet Samoria Stephens, Cadet Hannah Kennedy, and Cadet Braelynn Edwards were all awarded the Military Order of the World Wars Award for the Most Improved Cadet.
