Autopsy results deem natural causes for man found dead in Blackville

Details are limited in the death of a man found in Blackville.

At approximately 6:47 a.m. on Sunday, January 14, 44-year-old Demeon McCormack James of Macedonia Lane in Blackville was found deceased on the sidewalk of Solomon Blatt Avenue.

EMS was on scene and pronounced the victim deceased before the Blackville Police Department (BPD) arrived. BPD responded to a possible cardiac arrest, states the incident report. 

The autopsy revealed James died of natural causes, and did have cardiovascular disease. 

According to BPD Chief Ray Crawford, a concerned citizen alerted emergency services upon seeing the body.

James was transported to Newberry on Monday, January 15 for an autopsy, according to Barnwell County Coroner Denise Gibson.

Macedonia Lane, where James resided, is a connecting road between Solomon Blatt Avenue and Jones Bridge Road, located near Macedonia Elementary-Middle School.

Chief Crawford said the public should not be concerned as this is believed to be an isolated incident.
