BLACKVILLE - Funeral services for Gary Marvin “Bobcat” Chavis, 77, of Blackville, were held at 4 o’clock p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston, with the Reverend Ted Still officiating. The family received friends from 2 o’clock p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home on Friday. The family would like to extend an appreciation to all of his caregivers and a special thank you to Annette Black for all of the love and care they have shown to Marvin and the Chavis Family over the past few years.

Marvin passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Born in Richland County, he was a son of the late Straudie Bullens and Mamie Lou Chavis. He was a retired truck driver having worked for CMC Steel and was a long-time member of the NRA. He was an avid gardener and gunsmith who enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved being the life-of-the-party with his intelligence and his jokes. Marvin was a U.S. Army veteran that served in Vietnam and was the only survivor in platoon.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Patsy Ann Hutson Chavis; his daughters, Doris Chavis (Daryl) Rosier of Barnwell, Marlene (Kevin) Doughtie Seiber of Meldrim, GA, Rebecca (Kevin) Zorn of Barnwell, and Racheal Chavis (Jonathan) Neece of Olar; his grandchildren, Ashton Rosier (Chris) Inabinett, Skye Zorn, Sabbath Zorn, and Yahshua Zorn; a great-granddaughter, Leia Inabinett; sisters, Lori Ann (Jeff) Jones and Katie Chavis; a brother, Donnie (Nancy) Chavis; along with a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, T. J. Doughtie; sisters, Sarah Lindsy and Martha Hancock; brothers, Danny Boyer, Jerry Chavis, and Gary Wayne Chavis.
