Swiss Krono funds Foodshare boxes for Barnwell County students

Swiss Krono donated $5,000 to Foodshare Bamberg in an effort to bring fresh produce to all fall athletes in Barnwell County.

Athletes and band members at Blackville-Hilda High School (BHHS), Williston-Elko High School (WEHS), Barnwell High School (BHS), and Jefferson Davis Academy (JDA) will all receive a box filled with fruits and vegetables.

The funding comes from Swiss Krono’s annual Dean Scarbeary Charity Golf Tournament held on June 10 at Sweetwater Country Club in Barnwell. The tournament raised $20 thousand in total, according to Swiss Krono President & CEO Eric Christensen.

“What a wonderful community partner we have in FoodShare Bamberg. We are delighted to announce that a portion of the funds raised at our Dean Scarbeary Charity Golf Tournament will be donated to this well deserving organization,” said Audrey Grimball, Swiss Krono Communication and Culture Engagement Manager.

Southeastern Housing and Community Development also played a role in bringing this food distribution to fruition through facilitating and funding.

“With the help of our local high schools, each ‘Angel Box’ will be filled with fresh fruits and vegetables and given to a local family. Dean's legacy of caring for his neighbors will continue to live on through this great connection. Thank you to each person that has helped make this great opportunity possible, your efforts make a difference right here in our backyard,” said Grimball.

Students at BHHS and JDA will receive their boxes on September 7, and students at WEHS and BHS will receive their boxes on September 21.

Foodshare Bamberg is volunteer driven and located at the Bamberg Civic Center, a building they use in partnership with the City of Bamberg. Food boxes are distributed twice a month on Thursdays.
