In the early morning hours of December 27, shots were fired at a Snelling residence resulting in no injuries and three arrests.

Kenneth A. Grubbs was the first out of the three suspects arrested on December 28 and charged with shooting into a dwelling and attempted murder. Dustin L. Carroll was arrested on January 1, 2024 for the same charges, and Tiffany Ray was arrested on January 1, 2024 for charges of criminal conspiracy.

According to Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Chief Deputy Darlene Cook, the three suspects approached the Moore Drive residence and began knocking on windows and doors.

Once the home’s occupant came outside, shots were fired with only the home itself being struck on the front right side. Eight shell casings of various calibers were collected by investigators, according to the incident report.

Two of the three individuals arrested were already out on bond for previous charges at the time this incident occurred, and one was on probation.

Carroll was arrested on December 21, 2023 and charged with assault & battery, third degree. He was granted a $1,087 surety bond which was posted the day after his arrest. Carroll also has pending charges from April 2022 for driving under suspension, unlawful transportation of nonferrous (not iron based) metals in a vehicle, and possession/making implements capable of being used in a crime– all of which he was granted bond for.

Ray was out on bond for June 29, 2023 charges related to unlawfully placing a child at risk or causing harm.

Grubbs was on active probation beginning on October 19, 2023 for a domestic violence, second degree charge. Due to violating terms of his probation following the shooting incident, Grubbs was additionally charged with violation of terms of probation on January 2.

All suspects were transported to the Barnwell County Detention Center (BCDC) after their arrest to await bond, with only Ray’s being granted. Ray received a $5,000 surety bond on January 1, 2024 with orders not to contact the victim or their family and not to return to the incident location, which has yet to be posted at the time of publication. Charges were still pending and bond had not been posted for Carroll and Grubbs at the time of publication.
