On Nov. 21, a Friendsgiving Feast held at First Baptist in Barnwell served. 51 people.

Members of the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office, McDonald's, Center of Hope, and the Community Soup Kitchen prepared the meal to serve the community, and Pastor Charles Morris delivered a dynamic sermon. Barnwell McDonald's manager Kristi Gatlin formed the idea for the event, and her community partners were happy to take part.

“A special thank you to Kristi Gatlin of our own Barnwell McDonald's for thinking of this marvelous idea, and allowing a few of us to be a part of it,” said BCSO on Facebook.

After tasting BCSO Lt. Eric Kirkland’s homemade baked ham at the event, Gatlin’s mother, Jeanette, asked him to stop by her house for Thanksgiving. Lt. Kirkland surprised her with another ham, made from his late mother’s recipe. At the time, Lt. Kirkland did not know who Jeanette was in relation to her daughter, but felt compelled by the giving spirit.
