The Barnwell Warhorse volleyball team traveled to face the Williston-Elko Blue Devils on Monday, August 26 in an early season, in-county matchup. Barnwell won 3 out of 4 sets to claim the match win.

Williston-Elko jumped out to an early lead and continued on to a first set 25-17 win. Despite being down 1-0, Barnwell head coach Kames Furtick was confident her Warhorse squad could come back and win the match. That is just what they did.

In game two, Barnwell settled down and began playing together as a team. Serves were more consistent and communication was better, resulting in a much better outcome. Barnwell took the second set 25-13. Barnwell went on to win the next two sets and claim the 3-1 win over their rivals from down the road in Williston.

Coach Furtick was asked about her team’s early season victory and said, “We faced a tough challenge early on by losing the first set. However, we regrouped and made a strong comeback. The girls adjusted strategies, improved communication and demonstrated their resilience. Sophomore Rilee Sandifer led the team with 17 aces and 4 kills while seniors Jaidyn Devore and Tiera Arnold held strong at the net with two blocks each. The rivalry in Barnwell County is strong and we are excited to see them again next week at home.”

Coach Furtick is assisted by Mindy Sandifer. The 2024 Warhorse volleyball team consists of Tiera Arnold, Ashley Barrett, Brianna Croft, Jaidyn Devore, Brooklyn Gordon, Laney Grubbs, Rebecca Richardson, Khirston Robinson, and Rilee Sandifer.

Barnwell will host the Williston-Elko Blue Devils on Wednesday, September 4 then travel to Woodland on Thursday, September 5, and will hit the road again on Tuesday, September 10 to face Lake Marion.
