Forty volunteer firefighters responded to a December 16 kitchen fire that left a Williston home unlivable. None of the three individuals inside were injured.

Just past 10 p.m., the Williston Fire Department (WFD) responded with mutual aid from the Elko Fire Department, Long Branch Fire Department, and the Windsor Fire Department in Aiken County to the intersection of Mansfield Road and Main Street.

When the first unit arrived on scene in under a minute, fire was reportedly showing from the front and rear of the residence.

“Crews made an interior attack, search, and performed vertical ventilation all while water shuttle operations were taking place,” said WFD on Facebook.

According to WFD Chief John Melton, the fire started on the stove and crews spent four hours on scene.

The large number of volunteers who responded was “very beneficial and made the firefighting efforts much easier to mitigate,” said Chief Melton.
