2023 Barnwell County Municipal Election results bring changes

Blackville

Current Mayor Ronnie Pernell ran an uncontested race and received 95.12% of the vote. With 82 total votes cast, Mayor Pernell received 78 and a write-in candidate received four.

None of the three open seats were contested on the council. 197 votes were cast in total. Current Mayor Pro-Tem Frenchie D. Smalls received 68 votes, Councilmember Kelvin A. Isaac won 64 votes, and Councilmember M. Ann Pernell won 59 votes.

Hilda

All 45 votes in the Town of Hilda went to the only mayoral candidate: April Hutto. On the Hilda Town Council, 85 total votes were cast. Councilmember Allison Still Beasley received 42 votes and C. Guy Neal received 43 votes.

City of Barnwell

In District 2, current mayor pro-tem Peggy Kinlaw won with 163 votes, taking home 87.20 percent of the vote. A write-in candidate received 25 out of the total 188 votes.

In District 4, newcomer Wanda Highsmith won 58.82 percent of the vote with 90 votes against incumbent Jimbo Moody, who received 63 votes. 153 votes were cast.

In District 6, 172 votes were cast. Newcomer Jana Black Myers won with 88 votes against incumbent Ryan Bragg, who received 81 votes.

Snelling

Current councilmember Bobby Morris secured 11 write-in votes, totaling 32.56 percent of the vote. Morris is re-filling in the seat he previously held. Current council member Wiley Moore won 44.19 percent of the vote with 19 votes. A total of 43 votes were cast.

Kline

All nine votes for the mayoral race went to current mayor and only candidate William H. Cave.

Two seats were in the race on the Kline Town Council. Current councilmember Rodger D. Arnold stayed in his seat with nine votes, and Robert Sanders Sr., a write-in candidate, won for the second open seat. Sanders is replacing current councilman Milton Harden.

Williston

Alyson Collins returned to her seat on the council with 26.22 percent of the vote. Collins received the highest number of votes cast with 241, half of which were cast on election day.

Greg Walkup received 224 votes in total, 205 of which were cast on election day. Walkup took home 24.37 percent of the vote.

Judy Myrick Taylor received 22.31 percent of the vote with 205 ballots cast in total.

Elko

All 16 votes in the Town of Elko went to current mayor Toby Singeltary. 29 votes were cast for two seats on the Elko Town Council: 15 went to Steve Terry and 14 went to current councilmember Curtis Young.
