Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at Savannah River Site (SRS), donated $15,000 to Barnwell Elementary School to enhance its science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs.
In November 2023, SRMC President and Program Manager Dave Olson visited the school, which borders SRS, and awarded the grant.
“SRMC is dedicated to supporting STEM education. We are pleased to be able to provide assistance to Barnwell Elementary School,” Olson said. “Barnwell Elementary has a robust STEM program that is devoted to higher student learning, and SRMC supports its training system.”
Barnwell County School District Superintendent Crissie Stapleton said she is thankful for SRMC’s gift and plans to utilize the donation to purchase much needed STEM equipment.
“I am excited for Barnwell Elementary, our school district, our STEM teachers, and especially our students,” Stapleton said. “This is a significant investment in our STEM curriculum, and the donation will allow us to procure lab and technology equipment.”
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s SRS through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
