Four Barnwell County high school students were recognized in November by the Barnwell County Rotary Club.

Each month, the club bestows “Service Above Self” awards to a student from each local high school who displays the club’s motto.

The four students are:

Amaika Adi, a senior at Barnwell High School, is described by Assistant Principal Dr. Jessica Brabham-James as “very talented” and “sweet individual” with a “humble spirit.” Adi participates in dance, soccer, is historian for the National Honor Society, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, and Technology Student Association. She attends health science classes at the Barnwell County Career Center and does work-based learning at the nursing home. She plans to attend the College of Charleston and wants to become a naturopathic doctor, which works outside of drugs to use a holistic approach of diet, nutrition and exercise to fix health issues.

Logan Croft, a senior at Jefferson Davis Academy, is “always willing to help,” said Head of School Carla Jackson. Croft is a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society. He has participated in varsity sports since eighth grade. Croft, who earned his welding certification in 10th grade from Denmark Technical College, wants to attend college to be a contractor or engineer.

Jondalyn Dunbar, a senior at Williston-Elko High School, who “has done a lot for us,” said WEHS Principal Tony Flowers. Dunbar is on the Beta Club, part of the Student Government, and is a member of the Success Team in Aiken which does community service projects. She also takes health science at the career center and gains work-based learning at the nursing home. She plans to attend Clemson University and become a pediatric nurse practitioner “because I love kids,” said Dunbar.

Brianna Robinson is a “very involved” senior at Blackville-Hilda High School, said Principal Christina Snider. Robinson is president of the Future Business Leaders of America, secretary of student council, member of the Beta Club, co-editor of the yearbook, tutors, and is a cheerleader. She also attends health science classes at the career center. Robinson plans to attend USC Columbia to study speech and language pathology because “I just love healthcare,” she said.

After the students were recognized, Rotarian Dr. Crissie Stapleton said the club is proud of their accomplishments. She said she hopes they return to Barnwell County and join the Rotary Club.
