Raiders sail past Patriots 9-2

Posted

The Patrick Henry Academy Patriots traveled to Blackville on Monday, May 6 to face the Jefferson Davis Academy Raiders in JDA’s final home game.

The last home game is traditionally the game where the senior players are recognized before the home crowd one last time. It is often an emotional time, and can sometimes lead to unexpected results on the playing field. This was not the case as the Raiders easily defeated the visiting Patriots 9-2.

As the school year and regular season come to a close, teams either look to wrap up their season or get ready for the playoffs. JDA is playing some of their best softball of the year, just in time for the post-season to begin. Raiders head coach Bart Owens thinks so, saying, “We have played well last two weeks and are ready for the State Tournament.”

JDA is graduating two of their best players after the 2024 season. Reagan Still and Gylian Googe were both honored at Monday night’s final home game. It was a great time to celebrate these two young ladies and to say “thank you” for all they have contributed to the JDA softball program over the years. Coach Owens called it a night with “lots of emotions.”

“We played an amazing game tonight! Reagan pitched 7 innings with 2 hits and 1 earned run. We played well behind her on defense and hit the ball well but also played small ball to perfection,” said Coach Owens.

JDA seems to be playing like a team that is not ready to end this season quite yet. Playoffs are about to start, and every coach will tell you just how important it is to be peaking at the right time. That sounds just like the ticket to give Gylian and Reagan a few more magical memories to take with them.

Good luck JDA Raiders in the State Tournament and great job Reagan Still and Gylian Googe for all your hard work and dedication to the JDA softball program. You will be missed.
