Bamberg County authorities are investigating the shooting death of a young man with roots in Barnwell County.

Savion Williams, 20, of Denmark, was found dead inside a vehicle outside a home on 5th Street in Olar on Tuesday evening, Jan. 31, around 9:30 p.m. He died from a gunshot wound, said Bamberg County Coroner Wallace Hicks Jr.

“He was very outgoing and a real people person. Everybody got along with him. He got attached to people and they got attached to him,” said his mother, Nikki Chisolm.

As a lover of the trucks and fishing, Williams aspired to become a game warden, said Chisolm.

Williams also loved playing sports, including basketball, baseball, and football. Over the years, he played sports for Bamberg-Ehrhardt, Jefferson Davis Academy in Blackville, and Andrew Jackson Academy. He completed high school at Williston-Elko High in 2021, said Chisolm.

The S.C. Law Enforcement Division is assisting the Bamberg County Sheriff’s Office and Bamberg County Coroner’s Office with the investigation. No arrests have been made at this time, said Bamberg County Sheriff Kenny Bamberg.

This is the second homicide in 2023 in Bamberg County. The first one occurred earlier in the month in Denmark.
