The Miss Juneteenth pageant was held on June 18, 2023 at the FMU Performing Arts Center in Florence.

The pageant was hosted by Girls with Goals, LLC under the leadership of Mrs. Latoya Gibson. The organization has hosted several scholarship-based pageants as a means to give back to the community and build confidence in girls ages 3 years and beyond. The Miss Juneteenth pageant was created to celebrate culture and commemorate the official Independence Day for African-Americans.

The pageant consisted of different age divisions: Teeny Miss, Mini Miss, Jr. Miss, and Teen Miss. The phases of competition included Culture Wear, Talent, and Beauty. Over $10,000 was awarded in scholarships and prizes.

Londyn Washington was very successful at this pageant capturing 1st runner-up in the Mini Miss division. She’s the daughter of Crystal Washington of Barnwell and Terence Joyner of Blackville. Londyn will be entering the fourth grade. She plays softball, volleyball, and basketball.

Winners from each local pageant will have the opportunity to compete at the larger statewide pageant held in Columbia for a chance to win more scholarships and prizes.
