BARNWELL - A Celebration of Life Service for Joe Wallace Williams, 73, of Barnwell, South Carolina, will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Living Waters Fellowship in Barnwell, with Pastor Larry Hutto officiating. The family will host a time of fellowship following the service.
Joe passed away peacefully at home on October 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous journey with dementia. Born on May 28, 1952, in Aiken, S.C., he was the middle of three boys and the son of the late Frederick Howard Williams Sr. and Betty Bodie Quick.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frederick Howard “Fred” Williams Jr. and Thomas Robert “Tommy” Williams Joe was married to his high school sweetheart, Sandra Wright Williams, for 53 years—a love story that began at Williston High School, where Joe proudly wore #33 as a Blue Devil running back and Sandra cheered from the sideline. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Joe’s greatest joy was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; his son, Justin (Haley) Williams, and their son, James Theodore “Theo” Williams, of Columbia; his daughters, Keri (Brian) Owens and their children, Madison Elizabeth (Josh) Hurt and Maddox Heath Owens, of Louisville, Kentucky; Shannon (Todd) Phelps and their children, Skylar Marie Phelps and Gavin Williams Phelps, of San Diego, California; and Bethany (Cole) Smith and their children, Anna Grace (Zak) Tallent and Irelyn Rose Smith, of North Augusta, South Carolina. He is also survived by his cherished great-grandson, Griffin Oliver Tallent, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Joe retired after 23 years with the Savannah River Site, where he was known for his strong work ethic, servant’s heart, and legendary breakfasts. He could fix anything, lend a hand to anyone, and find a reason to laugh no matter the situation. Known for his quick wit and good-natured humor, Joe loved to cut up and make people laugh—teasing friends, joking with coworkers, and keeping his family smiling through every season. His laughter and warmth made everyone feel like family.
A devoted Christian, Joe was an active member of Living Waters Fellowship for over 20 years, where he worshiped and served faithfully. His love for Jesus Christ guided his life, and his quiet strength and kindness reflected his faith daily.
