BARNWELL - A funeral service for Mrs. Gloria Allen of Barnwell, South Carolina was held at 11 ante meridian, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 from the Ned Branch Baptist Church, 10620 Dunbarton Blvd., Barnwell, South Carolina.

Mrs. Gloria Marie Holloway Allen, age 88, the daughter of the late Elbert Holloway and Edith Mccrady Holloway was born on March 14, 1936, in Aiken, South Carolina.

She received her formal education in both Aiken and Barnwell counties. She would often share fond memories of her time at Schofield, and she graduated from Butler High School in Barnwell, S.C.

Seeking God’s directions and guidance, she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church and would later transfer her membership to Morris Chapel Baptist Church where her husband was a member.

Gloria will always be remembered for the love she had for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Gloria was known for her feistiness and wonderful sense of humor. She never met a stranger, and her heart was always filled with love for children. Gloria was an avid gardener, cook, and bird watcher. Her favorite past time was watching the sun rise over the ocean. Gloria was also an extremely hard worker and retired from savannah river site after many years of dedicated service to her job.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Allen Jr.; her parents, Elbert and Edith Holloway; sisters, Betty Jean Carter (Emmett), Deloris Foust and Roslyn Jackson.

Gloria entered eternal rest on July 10, 2024, at MUSC Health in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Gloria leaves to cherish her beautiful memory, nine children, Gwendolyn (Arthur) Timms, Samuel (Pamela) Allen of Barnwell, S.C., Claudia Jones of Summerville, S.C., Joyce (Bennie) Haynes of Walterboro, S.C., Jacqueline (Kevin) Timms, Tammy Allen, Latoya (Ronald) Shuler, Carolyn Anderson, all of Barnwell, S.C., Shawn (Krystal) Allen of Aiken, S.C.; her 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; her seven siblings, Frances Holloway, Carolyn Holloway, Debra (George) Heyward, Leon (Johnnie Mae) Holloway, Horace (Elizabeth) Holloway of Barnwell, S.C., Vanessa Holloway, and Janorvis Holloway, both of Aiken, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and sympathizing friends. Two loving friends, Charlotte Fields of Elkridge, M.D. and Johnnie Mae Wooden of Graniteville, S.C. and two special caregivers, Janet Redingburg of Barnwell, S.C. and Irene Jones of Blackville, S.C. and the staff of Allendale Rescue Squad. 

Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
