Free pet vaccinations offered March 4

Posted

If your cat or dog is not vaccinated, come get them up to date for free on March 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Christ Presbyterian Church located at 848 Hagood Avenue in Barnwell.

Canine vaccinations for distemper and parvo as well as feline leukemia vaccines are all offered for free through Petco Love, the Barnwell County Animal Shelter (BCAS), and Dogwood Animal Hospital.

Rabies vaccinations cost $10 and to get a microchip implanted costs $7, which is significantly less expensive than competing prices.

Distemper, parvo and rabies in dogs, and leukemia in cats are all potentially deadly diseases that spread rapidly. By getting animals vaccinated, the spread of these diseases is stopped and animals can live healthier and happier lives, just like how it works with humans.

“Parvovirus and distemper in dogs and panleukopenia in cats — the most prevalent deadly diseases affecting pets — are preventable with a simple vaccine. An estimated 30% of pet parents do not take their pet to a veterinarian annually for preventative care,” states the Petco Love press release.

BCAS aims to vaccinate 600 pets in this endeavor.

“Thanks to Petco Love, we can offer these important vaccines at no cost to pet owners,” said Marlena Ray, BCAS Director. “We urge community members to take advantage of this free resource to ensure the health and wellness of our community’s pets.”

There is no registration needed. Anyone in need can arrive at the Hagood Avenue location in the allotted time to have their pet vaccinated.
