David Page named Barnwell Conservation Farmer of the Year

Posted

Each year, the Barnwell Soil and Water Conservation District awards a farmer or landowner for outstanding conservation efforts.

On February 27, 2024, the District recognized a row crop and poultry farmer who has installed grass waterways and terraces to eliminate gully erosion problems on his farm.

He strip-till plants all row crops to improve soil quality and reduce runoff, while his low-pressure center pivot irrigation systems with drop nozzles conserve water and energy. A stacking shed was constructed on the farm to properly store water from the poultry houses. All these practices have production and environmental benefits.

Commissioner Fleming McMaster presented a plaque to David Page, 2023 Conservation Farmer of the Year, for his dedication to farming and natural resource conservation.

The Barnwell Conservation District hosted a luncheon at the Edisto Research & Education Center to present the award.
