Corder's Creative Corner: Poems from a hopeful romantic

Posted

It’s the season of love.

In two weeks’ time, lovers will be exchanging chocolates, roses will be falling from the sky, and I’ll be celebrating Single’s Awareness Day. But being the Hope(ful) romantic that I am, I wanted to use this time to share some love poems that I have written.

However, don’t expect to see hearts blooming in a halo around your head as you read these. Love can be a painful endeavor after all. However, that’s one of the reasons it’s so worth celebrating.

I hope you enjoy the poems.

Give Me Ardency

Eros! You have eluded me for so long.

Oh, witness my frailty

For I have no one to love me.

Nyx! Give me ardency!

Goddess of the spellbound night.

Let me kiss the nymph by the burbling brook.

Let me feel the beating of this long dead heart.

For Romance has died,

The curtain fallen on the tragedienne

Like the shroud of night.

Cold zephyr awakened my senses

To a forgotten dream of sanity

Left next to the grave of black roses.

But let the dream die, and have my heart beat again.

Awakening Dawn

Can you feel this cold chill

Of an awakening dawn?

As its alpenglow light beams through the trees

Onto these frosty fields.

I place the memory in your hand.

The one you told me that you couldn’t stand

For me

To keep.

And keep it, I wish I would,

For it would be all that remained

Of our love.

But you deny me even the remembrance

Of what we had.

So with newborn sunlight

On your eyes

I relinquish all I have

Left of you

Under the apricity

Of the Winter Sun.
