Callee Chesser named Technology Champion

Callee Chesser, a Barnwell County Career Center Health Science student, was recognized as a 2023 South Carolina Technology Champion for the Lower Savannah Region. She was recommended by her teacher, Dawn Wilbanks of the Barnwell County Career Center (BCCC). Chesser is a Barnwell High School student.

South Carolina public high school graduating seniors who are career and technical education program completers were eligible to apply for this recognition. Selection criteria included awards and honors, attendance, community service, demonstrated leadership, extracurricular activities, grade point average, and work-based learning experiences. Chesser was presented an official certificate of achievement from the S.C. Department of Education and a $350 scholarship check to use at the college of her choice by Lower Savannah Regional Career Specialist, Jean Rickenbaker.

Chesser expressed that her health science classes at the BCCC has given her the opportunity to earn college credit and a total of five certifications. Those certifications include CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) ,OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), PCTA (Patient Care Technician Assistant), and Pharmacy Technician. She credits her health science teachers, Wilbanks and Debbie Dicks, with setting high expectations and preparing her for her future career.

She plans to attend Charleston Southern University in the fall where she will major in nursing.

Chesser is the daughter of Faith and Zach Hobby and the granddaughter of Khris Still.
