Allendale fall clean-up a "sweeping" success

As Allendale County continues to work diligently towards receiving their Keep America Beautiful affiliation, the county hosted a two-day Fall Sweep on October 14-15. Keep Allendale County Beautiful has set a target affiliation completion date for January 2023.

The two-day cleanup, which was put together and organized by the Keep Allendale County Beautiful Executive Director Anne Rice and SouthernCarolina Alliance's Graci Hiers, consisted of over 95 volunteers who collected over 175 bags of litter throughout the two days. The areas collected during the cleanup included Old Barnwell Rd., Oswald Dr., Bluff Rd., Razor Rd., Ashe Rd., Hwy. 300/Wells Branch Rd. in Ulmer, Cemetery Rd. from Hwy. 321/301 to Brant Hill Rd., the Lower Savannah River Alliance (LSRA) Trail, several areas in Fairfax, Hwy. 278, and many other areas.

Local businesses and organizations also volunteered to help during the cleanup including USC Salkehatchie, Palmetto State Bank, Allendale Fire Department, and several churches. Around 90 more volunteers are expected to do their part by cleaning up more areas this week.

Volunteers included - USC Salkehatchie soccer players, Jamie White & his Masonic brothers, Tawni Major, Jeremy & Laurel Phipps (Swallow Savannah UMC Church), Bianca Mundi, Lula Tyson, Bianca Rollins, Carla Tudor, Donna Barnes, and Jody Crim (Palmetto State Bank), Anne Rice, Carlos Wesley, Zachery Pinckney, Ka'Wan Wesley, Gloria Harvey, Angela Ferguson, Joel Smith, Ervin Mathis (mayor of Ulmer) & family, Cindy & James Deer, Allendale Fire Dept., Bess & Larry Strong, and many others.
