Agencies unite for community health clinic/baby shower

Posted

Numerous agencies with a focus on health and community support joined forces to hold a Health Clinic and Community Baby Shower on September 9, 2023 at the Blackville-Hilda High School gymnasium.

Barnwell County First Steps combined their annual community baby shower aimed at supporting new parents with a health clinic offering a variety of services. Car seat checks were offered by First Steps alongside the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) mobile unit through the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).

Healthy Me - Healthy SC was present at the event. The goal of this joint initiative by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Clemson University is to improve healthcare access in rural and underserved populations across the state by building on Clemson University’s Cooperative Extension Service.

Aside from a plethora of information, participants were able to get certain medical care as well as items that aid in forming a healthy lifestyle. Foodshare Bamberg provided boxes of fresh food for the event as they frequently do throughout the region.

Some of the other organizations present were Low Country Health Care, Southeastern Housing and Community Development, My Pharmacy and Optical, Save the Children, and many more.
