19-year-old driver charged in fatal Barnwell hit & run

A hit and run left a pedestrian dead and the driver charged. 

Eugene Brabham, 69, was walking on Highway 64 toward the Town of Snelling on Saturday, August 3 when he was struck by a vehicle. His cause of death is multiplpe trauma injuries, said Barnwell County Coroner Denise Gibson. 

Barnwell County Sheriff's Office deputies, the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP) and Snelling firefighters responded to the scene around 5 a.m. 

The incident took place one mile west of the City of Barnwell as Brabham was walking east on the westbound side of Highway 64. 

Meanwhile, an unknown vehicle was "traveling west and struck the pedestrian and left the scene," said Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with SCHP. 

The SCHP arrested Samantha Leighan Cannon, 19, of Alcove Drive, Barnwell, on August 3. She is charged with hit and run with death, said Lance Corporal Brittany Glover. 

Cannon was initially transported to the Barnwell County Detention Center but has since made bond. 

This collision remains under investigation by SCHP.
