Elisabeth Davis to perform free piano concert in Williston

A Williston pianist will perform a free concert next month.

Elisabeth Davis is well known in the Williston and greater Barnwell County community, not only from her many years as a speech/language therapist in Williston schools but also as a musician.

“My greatest joy is accompanying soloists, choirs, and instrumentalists. I have been blessed to be a small-town musician. Through the years I have played for various churches, many weddings and funerals and community events such as Golden Age Club, Citizens of the Year Banquets, and WEHS graduation. One pastor, new to town, joked, ‘You don’t get married or buried around here without you!’” said Davis.

Davis first showed an interest in playing piano at age 8. She went on to take piano lessons for six years and has been playing ever since.

“I play by ear but was fortunate to learn to read music,” she said.

After decades of performing for others and with others, Davis has decided it is time to host her own concert.

“I always thought about giving a concert of Chopin pieces. Instead, I decided to share my love of music from Lawrence Welk to Leonard Bernstein, including standards, Broadway and popular tunes, hymns, and classical pieces,” said Davis.

“An Afternoon at the Piano with Elisabeth Davis” will be held October 15 at 4 p.m. in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel in Williston.

She said the concert venue is special to her because “I have played here for nearly 50 years and have a close relationship with this family. I appreciate their willingness to allow me to share the gifts God has given me,” she said of the Williams family who owns the funeral home.
