A romantic rivalry turned fatal over the weekend in Allendale.

In the late evening hours of Saturday, June 15, the Allendale Police Department (APD) responded to the area of Mill Street South at the intersection of Bing Street, Kennedy Park neighborhood, for a hit and run.

“The Allendale County EMS was dispatched first in response to a 911 caller who heard the victim, Theresa Elmore, crying out for assistance. Upon arrival it was determined that Elmore’s injuries were the result of being struck by a vehicle,” stated a press release from APD.

Assistance was requested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) who assisted in the initial traffic investigation. Investigation by the APD and the Allendale County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) revealed that Elmore was struck by a Chrysler 300C driven by 35-year-old Shakita Duncan, originally from Greenwood.

“Elmore succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention. Duncan and Elmore had romantic interests in the same man, who Elmore went to see the morning of her death,” stated the release.

Duncan was charged with Murder and Hit and Run Death. She was booked into the Allendale County Detention Center. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
