SALEM - Raymond S. Witt, 78, of Salem, S.C. passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026 at Cottingham Hospice House in Seneca, S.C.
Ray was born at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, S.C. on January 16, 1948. He was the son of the late Everett B. and Frances A. Witt of Barnwell, S.C. His family moved to Barnwell, S.C. in the early 1950’s. He attended Barnwell schools until graduation in 1966. He then attended BCD Tech (now Trident Tech) in Charleston, S.C.
Ray worked in finance, insurance, and banking and retired from Community First Bank in Walhalla, S.C. after 20 years. Ray never met a stranger and always had jokes to fit any occasion. He loved his mountain log cabin that he had built and enjoyed working in his garden and flowers, which he shared with all of his friends. Ray attended Scenic Heights Baptist Church and enjoyed the worship and fellowship.
He is survived by his sister, Marie (Jerry) Morris, of Barnwell, S.C.; his nephew, Brad (Sadie) Morris; his grandnieces, Finley and Riley Morris, all of Woodbine, Georgia. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Regina and Bristol Witt, and his daughter-in-law, Teresa Witt of Mountain Rest, S.C.; his paternal aunt, Rachel (Howard) Bentley of Trenton, S.C.; and numerous cousins.
Also, he had many close friends from the surrounding area who were always there for him — such a great circle of friends he had.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death in 2021 by his son, Jerry Ray Witt of Mountain Rest, S.C.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Scenic Heights Baptist Church, 1430 North Highway 11, West Union, S.C. 29696 or Cottingham Hospice House, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, S.C. 29672.
