Jeff joined the newspaper team in 2021 to write about Barnwell County’s talented student-athletes.
Jeff’s journey to write for the newspaper came after more than 25 years of teaching and coaching at local high schools. Though he’s now retired from coaching, he coached various sports (football, boys tennis, girls tennis, girls basketball, baseball, softball, track, and volleyball).
"I get to cover sports and bring some positive stories about our local high school teams and players,” he said.
Though he retired, Jeff still teaches math part-time at Barnwell High School. He’s also a two-time Teacher of the Year.
Jeff also loves acting. He’s been in many plays at Circle Theatre in Barnwell, but has also been in two movies. In the 1993 movie “The Program” that featured James Caan and Halle Berry, Jeff played on every football team in the movie at some point. He was a background extra in the 2018 movie “The Mule” featuring Clint Eastwood. He also enjoys watching movies and loves most things “Star Wars” related.
Originally from Columbia, Jeff has lived in Barnwell for over 20 years.
Jeff and his wife Beth, who is the newspaper’s accounts manager, have two adult children (Kevin and Ashley) and two granddaughters.
