Wow—what a welcome! On behalf of the Hampton family and our leadership team, thank you for making Hampton Lumber feel right at home here in South Carolina. From the first conversations a year ago to our groundbreaking celebration in Fairfax earlier this month, the hospitality and support from Allendale County and the surrounding communities have been incredible.
Our goal in Allendale County is simple: build something that lasts. Hampton Lumber has been in the sawmill business for more than 80 years, and as a fourth-generation, family-owned company, we take pride in doing things the “Hampton Way”—staying nimble, authentic, and community-focused. We’re not the largest lumber company in the region, but we aim to be the most preferred, exhibiting the quality of service and character that comes from being a family-owned business. We always aim to be the kind of company people want to buy from, partner with, and work for.
While construction has just begun on the new facility, we’ve already welcomed Michael Chapman as our General Manager, bringing decades of experience to lead the team. Over the next year, we’ll have a wide range of positions available, from skilled trades like millwrights and electricians to machine operators, maintenance technicians, and quality control specialists. There will also be roles in logistics, safety, and administration. The new mill, which we expect to be operational in early 2027, will be one of the most modern and efficient mills in the country, designed with an eye toward comfort and safety for all employees. We’ll offer training, apprenticeships, and professional development opportunities to help employees develop their skills. More details about job openings will be available in the coming months, so please stay tuned.
A sawmill creates good jobs inside its walls, but it also fuels growth across the region, supporting landowners, loggers, truckers, equipment suppliers, and local businesses. We believe we have an important role to play in making sure forests, the wood products sector, and the communities in which we operate are healthy and resilient. We aim to be an engaged partner in the community and look forward to working with local leaders to support priorities that strengthen Allendale County and surrounding areas, helping to build a vibrant future for all residents and ensure opportunities for generations to come.
Thank you again for the warm welcome. Now, let’s get to work!
Randy Schillinger,
Hampton Lumber CEO
