FAIRFAX - Mr. George Fechter, 83, of Fairfax, S.C. passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026 after an extended illness.
George served in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1968. He graduated from the New Jersey Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering and retired from Santee Cooper after approximately 30 dedicated years of service. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Friends and family knew George as an avid bowler who never let his score go unnoticed or forgotten. He was also a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and the Dallas Cowboys. In his younger days he took pride in his motorcycles and loved riding them.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Fechter; his sisters, Molly May, Anita Klesney (Frank) and Karen Swango (Wayne); his brother, Frank Fechter (Barbara); his sons, George Fechter IV, Joseph Fechter, John Fechter and David Fechter; his stepdaughters, Wanda Jones (Charles) and Shannon Cooper; his grandchildren, Logan, Julia, Nicole, Nicholas, and Nolan; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Francis Fechter; and his beloved son, Christopher Fechter.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Travis Moorehead officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association (772 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75231).
