BARNWELL - A service for Mr. Fred Crawford was held on Friday, June 6, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Union Missionary Baptist Church (3631 Patterson Mill Road, Barnwell) with Reverend Garneita W. Myers officiating. Burial at Hope Memorial Park (1730 Yale Road, Barnwell).

Mr. Fred Crawford, age 89, was born February 9, 1936 in Old Ellenton, South Carolina to the late Norman and Lizzie Cummings Crawford. He transitioned from this life on June 1, 2025 at his residence in the Red Oak Community.

At an early age he surrendered his life and joined the St. Luke Baptist Church, which later became known as the Union Missionary Baptist Church.

In July of 1959, he met and married the late Anna Lou Crawford. They worked together to make the business what it is today.

Fred was always self-employed and he founded Fred’s Recycling in 1972 and it became highly successful over the years. He worked tirelessly all the way up to his passing, doing what he loved and that was working in the junkyard.

He was a mentor to many young people, and he always had time to talk to you and give you some insight and wisdom.

Fred had five children, and his three sons whom preceded him in death: Norman Crawford, Larry Smith, and John Williams.

He leaves to cherish his wonderful and fond memories – two daughters – Joanne Carmichael, Charlotte, N.C. and Elizabeth Crawford, Warthen, Ga.; three grandsons – Fred A. Crawford, Princeville, N.C., Alonzo James, Monroe, N.C., and Alexis Quardell Price, Barnwell, S.C.; three granddaughters – Jacqueline Priester, Barnwell, S.C., Tamika Smith and Deshawn  Smith Mitchell, Aiken, S.C.; three granddaughters-in-law – Ebony Pinkney, Rocky Mount, N.C., Stacey Price, Barnwell, S.C. and Yolanda James, Monroe, N.C.; one sister-in-law – Earnestine Crawford, Carol City, Fla.; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; a special neighbor – Joyce Price Simmons, Barnwell, S.C.; many business associates over the years; and a special nephew, Christopher Crawford, Miami, Fla.

Guinyard and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
