BLACKVILLE - A graveside service for Elaine Shieder Frederick, 82, of Blackville, S.C., will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in the Williston Cemetery with her son Reverend Ken Frederick officiating. Elaine passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. Pallbearers will be Ken Frederick, Len Frederick, David Frederick, Robert Frederick, Joshua Frederick, Samuel Frederick and Tristen Raines. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service at the graveside as well as Friday, July 31, at the home of Ken and Suzanne Frederick in Blackville.
Elaine was a Christmas Eve baby, born December 24, 1943 outside of Grover, S.C. She was a twin but her sister, Shirley Jane, did not survive that first week of life. Her parents were Lawton David Shieder and Mary Nell Carter Shieder. She had two older brothers, David William Shieder and John Norris Shieder.
After graduating from St. George High School in 1962, she briefly began training to become a nurse. Then on a blind date on December 13, 1963, a Friday the 13th, she met the love of her life, Robert Frederick. They were married on August 1, 1964 and were inseparable until his death. They celebrated 58 wonderfully blessed years together. Robert was a pastor, so Elaine became a pastor’s wife, one of the most unheralded of all ministries. They faithfully served a number of South Carolina Baptist churches where Elaine would pour herself into the children and youth as well as other areas of service. She worked any number of jobs over the years but none of those compared to her love of being a mother and grandmother. Then near the end of her years, she could often be heard talking about her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and all three siblings.
Survivors include her sons, Reverend Kenneth L. (Suzanne) Frederick and Robert Len (Tiffany) Frederick; grandchildren Kenneth David (Sara) Frederick, Lydia Holland (Tristen) Raines, Joshua Monroe (Erin) Frederick, Samuel Layton (Ashleigh) Frederick, Robert Len Frederick Jr., Olin Chase Wilson, and Aaron Patrick List; and great-grandchildren Levi Robert Frederick, Eden Mae Frederick, Rowan Elise Frederick and Adalynn Grace Frederick. Along with a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, she is also survived by one sister-in-law, Pearly Shieder, who was as close as any sister could have been.
The family wishes to thank Pruitt Health Barnwell (Barnwell Nursing Home) for the wonderful care given Elaine over these past 3 and ½ years.
