Eddie Ray Terry was born on March 4, 1951, in Athens, Alabama to the late Jesse David Terry and Mary Hudson Terry. Eddie spent most of his working life as a welder, boiler maker, and construction supervisor, with his work taking him to many different places. Eddie met his wife, Cindy, when work brought him to South Carolina. He loved to tell the story of how they dated for 4 months before being married on February 9, 1980. They were married for 46 years. Cindy traveled all over with Eddie as he worked. They lived in Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia, before settling down in Elko, South Carolina in 1984. Eddie worked for FMC and SRS after moving back to South Carolina. After leaving SRS, he ran his own construction business. Eddie enjoyed the outdoors, fishing with his wife, riding on his golf cart, watching Blue Gabe’s fishing channel on YouTube, and he loved a good meal and tall glass of Strawberry Canada Dry ginger ale. He was an avid Alabama football fan. Eddie enjoyed going on vacations with his wife and family. He particularly enjoyed trips to Pigeon Forge, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Florida, Cancun, Mexico and enjoyed going on cruises. Another one of his favorite past times was hunting, fishing, and spending time with his late best friend, Leonard Mills. Eddie loved his daughter very much and always wanted a baby girl. He loved his grandchildren, Izzy and Isaiah, who affectionately called him Pepaw. They were his heart.
When Eddie was diagnosed with heart failure over 3 years ago, the doctors told him he had less than a year to live. Eddie told them that he would live to see his granddaughter graduate high school. He fought hard, and Eddie was able to see Izzy graduate high school and college in May of 2026. Eddie’s daughter, Kimberly, was blessed to be able to be one of his caregivers and then one of his nurses over these past 4 years, allowing them to spend much time together. Izzy was also blessed to be one of his caregivers over this past year. Eddie was a member of Edisto Baptist Church and loved Jesus. Eddie passed away on August 13, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He fought so hard and endured so much pain over the course of his illness. He will be missed very much and our lives on this earth will never be the same without him. We do know that he is healed now and in no more pain. He is watching over us and waiting for the day when we get to Heaven, and then we will be together again forever.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Thigpen of Ardmore, Alabama.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Cindy Schumpert Terry of the home; a daughter, Kimberly (Anthony) Norton of Williston; two grandchildren, Faith Isabelle “Izzy” Norton and Christian “Isaiah” Norton; a brother, Jimmy (Tammy) Winstead of Alabama; a sister, Joy Lynn Samples of Colorado; a special brother-in-law, Larry Thigpen of Alabama; and a number of extended family members and friends.
