BEAUFORT - Doris Barton Clifton, age 71, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 19, after a courageous 11-year battle with Parkinson's Disease.
She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother, especially doting on her three granddaughters.
She was an animal lover with a special place in her heart for pups in need of rescue, adopting several pups over the years. She insisted on donating to local and national rescue organizations.
She was born July 23, 1955 to William G. Barton (USMC Retired) and Edna P. Barton at Beaufort Naval Hospital, Beaufort, S.C.
She began her career at USMC MCRD Parris Island as the office manager for Josten's American Yearbook. She retired as a staff accountant at Waste Management in 2016.
Doris is survived by her husband of 42 years, Doyle Clifton; her brother, John Barton; a daughter, Tammy Ledford (Jeff); a son, Lee Tackett (Helen); and the lights of her life, her three granddaughters, Raegan Ledford, Caitlin Ledford, and Cara Tackett.
The family would like to especially express our deepest heartfelt appreciation to the nurses, CNA's, and staff at Friends of Caroline Hospice. The care, love, and attention we were shown brought us much comfort and will do so for years to come.
To our caregiver, Diane Gibson, who came into our home and "adopted" us, there are just no words. Your strength, kindness, and love will never be forgotten.
Additionally, we would like to thank the members of Beaufort Water Search and Rescue, and Roscoe's Southern Barbecue, who provided food for our entire family.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory, please consider the following:
