Fire trucks are seen outside of Walmart in Barnwell on Dec. 26.
Walmart in Barnwell was evacuated around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26 after smoke was seen inside the store.
“There was smoke from a defective ceiling duct heating unit in the pharmacy area. Power to unit was disconnected eliminating any further issues,” said Barnwell City Fire Chief Tony Dicks.
The store returned to normal operations a short time later, he said.
This incident comes two months after a small fire in the Christmas section caused smoke throughout the store. The October fire closed the store for several days.
