Community partners "light up" Allendale for the holidays

During the month of December 2025, there was a new radiance reflecting off the windows of downtown Allendale, and it wasn’t just the festive bulbs. It was the glow of a community rediscovered.

For years, Allendale has been described by many as a "blighted" town, a place where the echoes of a prosperous era had grown too faint. But this holiday season, the narrative shifted from "past tense" to "present joy." Leading the charge in this transformation was Rural Arts Council Maven and former town councilmember, Lottie P. Lewis, a local pillar of the community, who issued a "Community Trim-A-Tree" challenge that acted as a spark for local merchants and organizations to inspire a visual renaissance.

In her invitation to community partners, Mrs. Lewis called for a display of "love, unity, and joy," asking businesses and neighbors to adopt locations like Main Street, the farmers market, and the courthouse to create a festive atmosphere.

The Lily Bell Group, LLC, a team of homegrown legacy siblings who have turned their love for their hometown into a catalyst for change, didn't just answer the call — they amplified it. By investing their entrepreneurial resources into the heart of downtown Allendale, the siblings have helped fulfill Mrs. Lewis’s vision of a town filled with "beauty, joy, and community pride."

"We wanted to change the paradigm and give residents a reason to look up and see hope," said a representative of the Lily Bell Group.

By focusing on the "Lights and Life" initiative, the group is working to bridge the gap between Allendale’s historic roots and a vibrant future. The siblings are using their business acumen to prove that Allendale is not "forgotten," but rather a "blank canvas" for innovation. Their effort helped transform key areas into a "Community Trim-A-Tree" wonderland and the impact was felt everywhere especially on Highway 125 between Main Street and Memorial Drive, which was all aglow, inviting families to walk the streets safely after dark. The transformation clearly shows what happens when homegrown talent returns to pour into their own soil.

Mrs. Lewis’ initiative reflected Unity in Action supported by other community collaboration — from the Allendale County Courthouse, Laffitte & Warren Medical Center, Gooding & Gooding, P.A., Palmetto State Bank, Allendale Farmers’ Market, Main Street and in — between, we all applaud your willing participation.

This past holiday season will be long remembered and the results are clear, Allendale is shining. The efforts of legacy investments and the visionary leadership of Lottie Lewis have given residents more than just decorations — they have given them a new perspective. The "Community Trim-A-Tree Celebration" successfully turned the town into a beautiful display of togetherness, proving that while Allendale’s history is long, its brightest chapters are currently being written.
