An Aiken County wreck claimed the life of a Barnwell man.

On Tuesday, Oct. 7, a two-vehicle crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. on Charleston Highway (Highway 78) at Oak Street in Windsor. The accident claimed the life of one driver and left the other injured.

“The male driver of a vehicle was traveling west on Charleston Highway when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck an eastbound logging truck,” said Aiken County Coroner Darryl M. Ables.

That driver, identified as 71-year-old Jack Coleman of Barnwell, was transported by Aiken County EMS to Wellstar MCG in Augusta, Ga. where he succumbed to his injuries at 12:26 p.m., said Ables. An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week in Newberry.

The driver of the logging truck was also transported to the hospital for examination, Ables said.

The Aiken County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are continuing with the investigation.
