BLACKVILLE - Olivia “Libby” Daley Still passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 7, 1943, in her beloved hometown of Ridgeland, S.C., Libby lived a life defined by faith, family, and service. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, faithful friend, and dedicated community servant leader known for her kindness, generosity, and caring nature.
Libby is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Don B. Still; her son, Howard C. Still of Columbia, S.C.; her daughter, LeeAnne S. Weeks (Warren) of Greenville, S.C.; her beloved granddaughters, Emily L. Weeks and Anna V. Weeks; her nephew, Wilbur A. Daley (Debra); and many cherished great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar H. Daley and Cleo Hodges Daley; her brother, Oscar Hopson “Hop” Daley Jr.; and her nephew, O.H. “Tripp” Daley III.
A 1961 graduate of Ridgeland High School, Libby was an active student, serving as a cheerleader, basketball player, and yearbook editor. She was crowned Miss Jasper County in 1962 and placed Third Runner-Up in the talent competition at the Miss South Carolina Pageant, where she showcased her gift as a pianist. She earned an Associate of Business degree in Accounting from Palmer College and began her career at Palmetto Electric Cooperative. After several years, she decided to return to college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education from Georgia Southern University.
Libby then dedicated her professional life to public education and child nutrition, serving for many years as Barnwell County School Food Service Director. She represented South Carolina in developing a School Recipe and Merchandising Manual, oversaw the construction of six school cafeterias, directed the Summer Feeding Program, and played a vital role in coordinating food distribution as part of the South Carolina Emergency Preparedness Program’s disaster and emergency readiness. Her leadership extended statewide through the South Carolina School Food Service Association, where she served on the Executive Board and later as State President. She was also instrumental in organizing the South Carolina School Food Service Purchasing Alliance, helping strengthen school nutrition programs across the state.
Libby earned numerous honors for her dedication to education and public service. She received the Clemson University Extension Service Award for her outstanding work in improving home economics programs in Barnwell County. The Barnwell County Career Center FFA also established the Don and Libby Still “Learn to Serve” Award in recognition of the values they exemplified, an honor that continues to inspire students today.
Beyond her profession, Libby devoted countless hours to civic, professional, and church organizations. In her younger years, she was active in the Ridgeland Jaycees and Jaycettes, as well as the Jasper County Historical Society. In her youth, she also served as pianist at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Ridgeland. She later served on the Executive Board of the Barnwell County Arts Council, the Blackville Area Historical Society, the South Carolina Agricultural Council, and the Blackville Garden Club, where she served multiple terms as president. A faithful servant of her church, she was an active member of Blackville First Baptist Church and Double Pond Baptist Church, serving on numerous committees and generously sharing her love of cooking.
Although Libby dedicated much of her life to serving others, her greatest joy came from bringing people together over a shared meal. She loved cooking, entertaining, shag dancing, traveling, and making memories with those she loved. She and Don traveled to all 50 states and many countries abroad while faithfully organizing and attending family reunions, Ridgeland High School reunions, and Don’s Clemson reunions.
Anyone who knew Libby knew she was always prepared to feed a crowd. The trunk of her car was rarely without a crockpot, a casserole dish, serving utensils, tablecloths, to-go containers, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and everything needed to serve a meal. Libby was a master at making something wonderful from whatever she had on hand. Her recipes were simple but delightful. And no gathering was complete without her famous pecan pie, pound cake, okra rice, or fruit salad. Although she was often what the family affectionately called “Libby Late”, no gathering or meal was complete until Libby rolled in with her delicious creations. Whether preparing Sunday dinner, church suppers, family reunions, or meals for someone in need, Libby believed life’s greatest blessings were found around a table shared with family and friends.
Above all, Libby will be remembered for the way she loved. Through her unwavering faith, generous spirit, and servant’s heart, she taught those around her that life’s greatest blessings are found in caring for others. Her legacy lives on in her beloved family, the countless students she nourished, the friendships she cultivated, the traditions she created, and in every casserole shared, every table set, every pecan pie baked, every recipe made with love, and every note carefully saved.
There are no words to fully express our gratitude to Jerry Anderson, Trish Bryant, and Beth Wright. These remarkable women lovingly cared for both Libby and Don. Their compassion, encouragement, and steadfast presence carried us through difficult days, and their kindness will forever be remembered with grateful hearts.
