BARNWELL - John Cleveland Spells was born on Tuesday, May 12, 1953, to the late John Spells and the late Dorothy Louise Harley Spells in Dunbarton, South Carolina. On Monday, July 22, 2024, the gates of Heaven swung open as God called John home to rest at his residence in Barnwell, South Carolina, at the age of 71.
Seeking God’s direction and guidance, he joined and became a baptized member of Jordan Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina, where he remained a member until his passing. His education was provided by teachers and mentors of the Barnwell County public school system and was a graduate of Barnwell High School. John was employed as a machine operator at Allied, where he retired after many years of service.
Although John’s presence will be no more, he leaves loving memories that will remain embedded in the hearts and minds of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his grandparents, John was welcomed at the pearly gates and is now resting with his beloved parents, father, John Spells, and most recently his mother, Dorothy H. Spells, who received her heavenly reward on July 12, 2024. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carolyn Neal; and one brother, Robert Jr.
Those remaining to cherish his fond memories are his one son, John C. Williams of Barnwell, S.C.; two daughters, Kim (Lerone) Jeffery and Paris L. McClain, both of Warrenville, S.C.; honorary daughter, Keandra Brown of Aiken, S.C.; four grandchildren, Amauri Williams of Vineland, N.J., Jaden Williams of Raeford, N.C., and Zion Hoover and Kailee Williams, both of Warrenville, S.C.; honorary grandson, Joshua Smalls of Barnwell, S.C.; two sisters, Patricia (Larry) Cohen of Allendale, S.C., and Diana Robinson of Barnwell, S.C.; two brothers, Carnell (Lorine) Spells of Barnwell, S.C., and Albert (Doretha) Spells of Newport News, Va.; special friend, Queen Brown of Allendale, S.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loving friends.
