BARNWELL - James Blackwood Lawrimore, 68, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, September 14, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, Williston with the Reverend Charles Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Williston Cemetery with Fireman Rites accorded. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 17 at the funeral home in Williston.
A lifelong resident of the Barnwell area, James devoted many years of his life to serving others. He worked and retired from Savannah River Site for 36 years as a power operator. He also faithfully served with the Long Branch Fire Department, including as Assistant Chief for a number of years. He served several different fire departments in the community for more than 45 years, including Barnwell Fire Department, Williston Fire Department, Snelling Fire Department, Barnwell County Dive Team and was previously employed with St. Paul Fire Department. His dedication to his community and fellow firefighters was an important part of his life.
James was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. When he wasn't working or serving his community, he enjoyed the outdoors. He especially loved hunting, fishing, grilling, riding his red Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and spending time with the people he loved.
James is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Eletha Myers Lawrimore; grandson, Nathan Lawrimore; sisters, Jane (Stan) Sorey and Julia (Tad) Dickerson; brother, John (Terri) Lawrimore; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John “Buster” Lawrimore and Jeanette Sanders Lawrimore; his son, Adam Brantley Lawrimore; and his sister, Jill Bouchillon.

James will be remembered for his many years of service, his love of the outdoors, and the devotion he showed to his family, friends, and community. His legacy of hard work and service will live on in the many lives he touched.
